THINK ALL STRAINS ARE EQUAL? THINK AGAIN.

You may have heard someone say ā€œmarijuana is all the same, thereā€™s no differenceā€, but thatā€™s further from the truth. There are three predominate types of strains (sativa, indica & hybrid) with different characteristics.

The terms sativa and indica have been around since the 18th century when the differences between the plant structure and resin were first noted. The term hybrid was later created when growers began mixing genetics of the different types of plants. Indica plants are believed to have originated near Afghanistan where the sativas were located in areas closer to the equator.

Indicas in appearance are short and bushy which is suitable for growing indoors. They have thick coats of resin. Indicas can also be quite fruity in flavor. They tend to have higher yields, though there are exceptions. Users can expect to experience a full-body relaxing effect great for pain, insomnia and anxiety.

Sativas in appearance are tall and thin making them suitable for growing outdoors. Sativas can also have a fruity flavor, however, they are more known for having a broader range of tastes. Growing wise, they take a longer time than the indicas to finish. Users can expect an uplifting or even a creative experience perfect for those with mood disorders and even depression.

Hybrids occur when growers mix genetics of a saliva and an indica plant. They can be broken down into three categories.

  • Saliva-dominant ā€“ cerebral high with a relaxing body effect. Some strains are OF, Headband, Juicy Fruit, J1, Sour Diesel
  • Even hybrids ā€“ has a perfect balance of cerebral and body effects. Some strains are Blue Dream, Blue Widow, XJ-13, Purple Diesel
  • Indica-dominant ā€“ provides full-body pain relief with a relaxing head high. Some strains are Tahoe OG, Blackberry Kush, Girl Scout Cookies, Skywalker OG

As always, itā€™s best to do your research to figure out what strain is best for you and the results you want to achieve with medicating.
